Anamargret Sanchez at Prana Yoga
Prana Yoga in Coral Gables has been Miami's True Iyengar yoga studio for 10 years. Iyengar, author of "Light on Yoga", a great yogi who himself is credited with being the primary force behind yoga's tremendous popularity in the west. The studio is among the nicest I have ever been to. The practice stresses alignment and breath which are the 2 aspects that make it yoga rather than gymnastics or dance. There is far too much yoga out there that has people reaching for poses at the expense of breath and alignment. Here I found a comprehensive sequence of asanas followed by savasana which was in itself followed by pranayama breath work and then seated meditation. At last! It was an inspiration in the sense that it was the most well rounded yoga class I personally have ever taken in Miami. Often I find the physical aspect of hatha yoga is brought to the fore at the expense of the other 7 limbs of traditional yoga of Patanjali. Following the prescriptions of the Iyengar tradition there was a sense of full completion and renewal upon opening one's eyes after seated mediation. Given the opportunity I would recommend Anamargret as a teacher to any yogi out there looking for a class that incorporates all 8 limbs of raja yoga.
