Wellness or bringing mindful healthy habits to the body will keep a person living happy and free from disease. There is often the belief that we are victims of our environment. This is not true. We can choose what we expose our mind and body to. It is true that in a free society there is temptation to indulge in all kinds of unhealthy foods and activities, but we can invite Wellness into our lives by starting just a few healthy habits and selecting some fun foods. Instead of trying to quit bad habits start some new healthy routines and you will find that the bad ones will become less attractive. Here is a list of some simple Wellness tips to get started.
-
Yoga. Yoga is a fun social activity that creates strength, flexibility, and overall good heath. Yoga is great because you can start with a very gentle practice and when ever you feel ready it can become the most kick ass work out you have every had. Take your time and enjoy.
-
Eat Organic Foods. Non-Organic foods are sprayed with toxic pesticides and herbicides. Pesticides were developed from the Nerve Gas used in WW2 and Herbicides were developed from Agent Orange used in Vietnam. If your food is not labeled “Organic” it has poison on it.
-
Eat Fresh Foods. Preservatives are not good for you. If you can leave food outside for more than 15 minutes and ants and other animals have not already eaten it you should not put it in your body either. This is an easy thing to do just buy fresh breads and cookies and other foods instead of the ones in the packages. Fresh baked breads and cookies taste so much better than the ones in the packages anyway.
-
Meditate. Meditation and Yoga are very similar. Any good yoga teacher can guide you in how to meditate. Meditation is proven to lower blood pressure and stress. Meditating just 15min/ day can radically improve your life.
-
Spa. Take time to treat yourself Well. Get a message, take a bath or just relax in a calming atmosphere. Do not underestimate the power of touch. Sometimes all we need is to allow ourselves to relax and let another person take away bodily stress with skilled hands.
-
Wear Organic Clothing. This one is a no brainer. Synthetic fibers like the different varieties of polyester are made from toxic petroleum chemicals. Non-Organic cotton is responsible for 25% of the Worlds chemical fertilizers and Pesticides. Do you know what is on your body right now? What are you sleeping on? Choose Organic cotton to keep poisons off your body and out of the environment.
The list goes on and on, but these are simple things that you can do today to start becoming more Aware of your health and how it is linked to the Environment at large.
