This week I attended my first classes of the Spring semester at business school. Surprisingly enough, I walk into my first day of International Business/Global Responsibility class and find the reading assignment for the week is on The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy by Pietra Rivoli....a book I read on my own a few months back. For those of you who dont know, the book chronicles the journey of what it takes to make a single cotton t-shirt. From the cotton fields, to the factory that spins it into yarn, to the factory that turns it into fabric, to the factory that then produces it into the actual t-shirt...you get the picture. The book opens your eyes into the crazy world of fast fashion and the harsh conditions of the sweat shops around the world these shirts are made in. Later we had a debate on whether the United States should be more open to globalization and working with a free-market mentality or try to buckle down and keep production within the United States. My opinion was obviously biased considering I am a supporter of sustainable fashion...the farthest thing from fast fashion around. The point I am trying to make though, is that this debate is going on everywhere. And the topic of conscious fashion is starting to pop up more and more frequently. It is a current hot topic and it is gaining more and more of an audience. Support conscious fashion. Use the promo code belowtheseam on your next YOGiiZA purchase for 10% off your order. xo, Hannah
